Hyundai Elite i20 Price in India 2020 – Looking at the success Hyundai produced here in India, we continue to think how many local and foreign rivals the South Korean company overshot to become India’s second-largest carmaker. Well, looking at a car like the Elite i20, you seem to get a snapshot of the answer. Look, comfort and efficiency combine in this car, making it a fun bundle.
The Elite i20 has found favour with Indian buyers since its introduction. New rivals have entered the fray, making things even more competitive, but the premium hatch of Hyundai continues to bring buyers into the showrooms of the brand. We ‘re not here to sing the praise hymns, however. We are looking closely at the Elite i20 and asking you what’s good and what isn’t.

Among the most striking designs in the segment was the previous Elite i20-that explains why Hyundai probably didn’t tinker much with the styling in the updated model. The Elite i20 2018 is now better equipped with features including the enhanced infotainment system and rear armrest. The features list on the Elite i20 facelift not only fits its rivalry but in certain divisions it also surpasses them.
However, the lack of automatic version at launch is a little surprising as the Baleno and the Jazz both have a CVT with their petrol variants registered. Among the segment’s most impressive styles was the previous Elite i20-which explains why Hyundai may not have tinkered more with the style in the latest model. The 2018 Elite i20 is also completely fitted with features such as the updated setup infotainment and rear armrest. The Elite i20 facelift apps list not only fits the rivalry but also surpasses them in other divisions.
It would be pretty bold to say that this is the best-looking vehicle in its class, but we are sure that many people would agree. For the purposes of making things appear appealing, the designers have luckily veered away from unnecessary cuts and slashes and instead, the Elite gets an understated style that attracts focus rather than asks for it.
Overall, it has a tidy, clear profile that injects into its logo a sliver of sportiness. If you deleted the Hyundai logo, we might have quickly confused it for anything a European company has made.
The face is menacing due to the elegant, swept-back headlamps, complementing the chiselled fascia of rugged lines down the bonnet. The chrome design on the front grille provides just the perfect amount of light.
Thanks to the sharply styled front bumper, which also slides down the car’s front, the Elite i20 is a handsome car. Both the warning lights are easily noticeable and well blended into the cluster of headlamps.
The handles of the chrome door are a little excessive, but once again Indians love their chrome. The 16-inch alloy wheels are deserving of drool, and are a standout of construction. Using aftermarket products, you do not have the need to forage.
Like Baleno and Jazz, Elite i20 does not have MPV overtones. The blackened C-pillar slides down on the side profile like the shoulder-line and the door covering. The width of the shoulder links head ends and tail lights are also fascinating.
The back doesn’t have the same streamlined features as the front but it isn’t bulbous like the Baleno. The LED-looking rear light looks really good at night, and maybe a little black covering in the rear bumper enhances the look from behind.
Although cabin room is par-for-the-course, it will be quite a deal maker with the upmarket ambience. Today Premium hatchbacks deliver consistency that we can find in the above segments and the Elite cabin is a good illustration of this.
The dashboard is elegantly built, featuring special AC vents and a central console with easy-to – navigate buttons. The lower part of the dashboard is black coloured, while the upper half of the dashboard is beige.
We enjoyed the atmosphere’s variety, and thought it built off a pattern that most car makers are pursuing here in India today. At the top of the middle screen, just below the main AC vents, the audio panel is located.
Although it comes as a highlight, the central screen could have been larger on the move for improved ease of use. System controls are arranged around the display, and a large Start / Stop Engine button is placed on the console side. A new AVN System (Audio Visual Navigation) has revised the current version and is fitted with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment interface.
Below is the console for temperature control with a slim blue-enlightened panel. At the bottom of the console you have a small storage area where the inhabitants can store phones and other repair items. There are also two 12V power ports, a USB and an AUX port that make the passengers’ life better.
The 3-speed steering wheel is draped in leather which adds to the cabin’s upmarket experience.
The instrument cluster comes with an analog tachometer and speed meter, and the illuminated dials make reading simple in any situation.
Door pockets are available in all the doors but we will emphasize that they are too small to contain serious items. The entire system is organized ergonomically, it comes very naturally to side.
Armrests and headrests provide added convenience, and the lumbar support is also excellent. The seat upholstery bounces through the cabin’s luxury look whilst the alternating beige and black stitching is a tactile delight.
Added bling arrives in the shape of metal highlights on the shift lever, the parking brake and the internal door handles.
This engine has now been retired because it was just a query about BS4. Hyundai will soon be introducing the 1.5-liter diesel engine for Creta and Venue into the Elite i20.
The dynamics inside stay unchanged by the old i20. The car gets the same 1.4-liter U2 CRDi engine for the diesel version which displaces 1.396cc. At 4,000rpm, the 16-valve engine generates 90PS and a peak torque of 220Nm at 1,500rpm – 2,750rpm. We thought the engine was running fairly well, with a more sequential power transmission and a drop in turbo lag relative to the previous edition.
With this engine offering enough low-end torque, city driving is particularly outstanding. The engine is meshed with a manual 6-speed transmission which we did not have any trouble operating. As expected, low-rev high gear combinations work well and while it can easily hit high speeds, this engine is best suited for cruising.
As for the variant of petrol, it receives a 1.2litre Kappa VTVT engine that displaces 1,197cc. The power production is 6,000rpm at 83PS, with a peak torque of 115Nm at 4,000rpm. We couldn’t help but get the feeling that at times the motor was overworked, particularly at high speeds. It’s a really quiet car, which runs very well in the area, but take it out on the highway and its battle.
Remember that a complete passenger load should see you being pretty liberal with your throttle inputs and high-speed overtaking would need some good preparation and maybe a downshift too. Luckily the gear lever is nice to use and falls precisely into the gear gates.
Ride and Handling:
The Elite i20 is a step up in terms of ride consistency and comfort as contrasted with the earlier edition. It’s quick to handle potholes and damaged highways as long as you keep to the low speeds. The suspension is legal, and no longer bouncy. The steering is super-light at city levels, but although it weights well when you pick up the rate, because it seems mechanical, it is not appealing to the enthusiast.
Stopping control comes from front-facing disk brakes and rear drums. The old model introduced all-round disk brakes, but the new system provides sufficient stopping power and panic stopping is a drama-free affair.
For some impressive safety elements, we must hand it over to Hyundai. The drawback – these are specifically for higher models.
Lower models come with ABS, reverse positioning sensors, a rear camera, central locking and a rear-view mirror with an electrochromic display. In addition, front riders benefit from seatbelts with pretensioners, a keyless entry feature, and a rear defogger with a timer. Yeah, you have a real estate agent too.
All has five variants-Age, Magna, Sportz, Asta, and Asta(O). The ‘Era’ entry grade comes with a central button, smart lever, dual trip meter, automated clock, low fuel alarm, door ajar alert and flexible headrest. The Asta and Asta(O) have it all-a fully automatic air conditioning system, rear wiper and washer, luggage lamp, external mirrors electrically foldable, parking sensor display and auto unlock function. The Asta will of course make the better choice, but if you want a combination of usability, health and affordability, the Sportz makes a fantastic VFM alternative.

The new Elite i20 Automatic gets Automated 4-Speed transmission. This is a regular torque converter package. This 4-speed Transmission could only be very fuel-sapping. But with the bigger engine, the new Hyundai Elite i20 Automatic would certainly be a lot more enjoyable to drive. There is one cap on the revised i20 Automatic 1.4 litre petrol engine. Output 100 PS @6000 rpm and 132 Nm peak torque @ 4000 RPM. The Hyundai Elite i20 Automatic could have a true top speed of 170 KMPH.
The automatic transmission torque converter would not be as effective as the Dual Clutch models. So, we don’t anticipate the latest i20 Automatic to have a fuel mileage of more than 17 kpl reported. According to official estimates, the petrol models with the 5-speed manual transmission currently produce 18.6 kpl overall.
